All of the confirmed positive cases are Ethiopians of which 7 are male and 9 are female and their age ranges from 20 - 60 years. *The confirmed cases are all Ethiopians. The first case is a 32 years old female with travel history to Djibouti, Brazil, India and her last travel was to Congo Brazzaville. The second case is a 26 years old male with no travel history. However, due to the nature of his work, he has contact with travelers. The third patient, a 32 years old male, was under follow up in an isolation center as he had contact history with a previously confirmed case. Ethiopia has confirmed three new cases. The first two confirmed cases are a 30 years old and a 36 years old male Ethiopians that arrived on March 24 from Dubai on the same flight. Both were in a mandatory quarantine at a designated center. Upon developing symptoms, they were isolated and tested positive for COVID-19. The third case is a 60 years old female Ethiopian residing in Addis Ababa who arrived from France on March 15. She was in a follow up and upon developments of symptoms, she contacted the hotline service and laboratory test confirmed positive for COVID-19. All patients are under treatment in a designated treatment center. source
Update: Ethiopia confirmed one more new case. The confirmed case is a 42 years old male Ethiopian that lives in Dire Dawa and returned from Australia on March 18 before the mandatory quarantine was put in place and travelled from Addis Ababa to Dire Dawa on March 19. Upon developing symptoms, the Ethiopian Publich Health Institute conducted a laboratory test and the result confirmed positive for COVID-19. The patient is under treatment in a designated treatment center in Dire Dawa. source

Ethiopia has confirmed two new cases. The first case is a 32 years old Ethiopian man who came from USA on March 19 and residing in Addiskedame town, Amhara region. The second case is a 37 years old female Ethiopian residing in Bahirdar City, Amhara region who arrived on March 21 from UAE. Both arrived before the mandatory quarantine was in effect. Upon developing symptoms they were isolated and tests were conducted that later confirmed positive for COVID-19. The patients are under medical treatment in a designated regional isolation center. The contact tracing and follow up is undergoing. source

Ethiopia has confirmed three new case. The first patient is 28 years old female Ethiopian with travel history to Brussels, Belgium and Cameroon on March 17th and 19th, respectively. The patient was tested positive on March 28th after developing symptoms. The second and third patients are 14 years old male and 48 years old female who are family members residing in Adama and had close contact with a previous confirmed case. They were under medical follow up after they were identified through contact tracing and were tested positive on March 28th. source
Update: Ethiopia confirmed two more new cases. The confirmed cases are a 38 years old male and a 35 years old female Ethiopians living in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia has confirmed four new case. A 72 years old Mauritian man who returned from Congo Brazzaville on March 14 and visited health center on March 22. The Ethiopian Public Health Institute has then conducted tests and confirmed that the patient has tested positive. Six people have been identified by contact tracing and are in isolation and further contact tracing is being performed to identify more related people. The second patient is a 61 years old resident of Adama city. This patient does not have any travel history but had work related contact with a foreigner. The patient first showed symptoms on March 18 and was in isolation and on March 25, the patient went to health centers where tests confirmed to be positive. Related to this patient, 24 other people have been identified and are in isolation. The third case is a 28 years old Ethiopian that returned from Israel on March 21. On March 25, a test conducted by the Ethiopian Public Health Institute resulted positive. With contact tracing, 7 more people were identified and are in isolation. The fourth patient is a 24 years old girl that does not have any travel history. On March 26 her test result came out to be positive. Investigation is undergoing to see if she had contact with people who have shown symptoms. All patients are in isolation center receiving treatments. source
Update (March 30):Since the 24 years old girl did not have any travel history and contact with a confirmed COVID-19 positive case, three more tests were conducted and all results were negative. Since the girl has known underlying health conditions, she will continue to receive treament in the hosptal. The related isolated health workers will go back to their work and family in the coming days. source

Ethiopia has confirmed one new case. A 34 years old Ethiopian man who came back from Dubai on March 19th. The patient went to a health facility on March 22nd after he felt symptoms of COVID-19 and his laboratory result was confirmed positive. The patient is under medical treatment in a designated treatment center and is in a stable condition. source

Ethiopia has confirmed two new cases. A 28 years old Ethiopian who had travel history to COVID-19 affected country and came back from Belgium to Ethiopia on March 14th. The second is a 34 years old Ethiopian who came to Ethiopia on March 19 from Dubai and was detected at the airport health screening desk as he had syptoms. Both are in a stable condition and contact tracing is being conducted. source

The second confirmed case is 85 years old Ethiopian who came to Ethiopia on March 2. The third case is a 39 year old Australian who came to Ethiopia on March 15th. While the two confirmed cases are in stable conditions, the 85 year old has a severe form of illness and is under close medical care. source

Ethiopia confirmed the 6th case of COVID-19. A 59 year old female UK diplomat who came from Dubai. She was self-isolating in a hotel she was staying at. Currently, she is in isolation and on medical follow up. source

Based on contact tracing related to the first case, Ethiopia confirmed 3 more positive cases of COVID-19. Two Japanese citizens aged 44 and 47 and one Ethiopian (their driver) aged 42. All were in close contact with the first confirmed case. The clinical condition of the first confirmed case is progressing well and currently does not have clinical symptoms. source
Update: Ethiopia confirmed the 5th case on March 15th. The confirmed case is a 34 years old Ethiopian citizen who returned from Dubai on March 12. The person is under medical follow up at a designated isolation and treatment center. So far about 117 contacts have been traced and are all being quarantined and under close follow up. source

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Ethiopia is reported. A 48 year old Japanese citizen who came to Ethiopia on March 4 from Burkina Faso. The patient is under isolation and is in a stable condition. source
